Join me for dog walks, creative sparks, and writing inspiration as I navigate life with my clingy pup, Monet, and find joy in everyday moments!
The Eau de Woe Incident
Date: 8/19/2025
Location: The Inner Sanctum (a.k.a. my house)
Subject: Monet the Velcro Pup
This morning began as many others do: with me attempting to go about my routine like a normal person, and Monet treating my every move like breaking news coverage.
I decided to spritz a little perfume. Nothing major. Just a touch of scent to say, “Yes, I work from home, but I still have standards.” A simple act. A bit of human dignity.
Except Monet was glued to my ankle like a tufted barnacle on a shipwreck.
And when that fine mist hit the air?
Disaster.
Instant sneezes. Snorts. Gagging sounds so dramatic, you’d think I’d pepper-sprayed him with Skeleton Key (discontinued) by The Appalachian Cauldron. He looked at me like I’d personally betrayed him with a betrayal scented in bergamot and poor choices.
“Dear Monet,” I said. “If you weren’t such a clingy little bugger, maybe you wouldn’t be choking on perfume right now.”
He licked the air.
Coughed again.
Then, I sneezed into my sock as if to say, “This is your fault, woman.”
Sniffari Analysis:
Target: My perfume.
Tactical error: Standing directly under the spritz zone.
Follow-up investigation: 10 minutes of licking the floor and glaring at me with watery eyes.
Outcome: One sock tragically damp. One dog still emotionally codependent. One human, both guilty and deeply amused.
Sniffari Conclusion:
Monet continues to be the resident health & safety inspector of all things smelly. Whether it’s sniffing the bottom of shoes, supervising bathroom breaks, or inserting his nose into airborne cosmetic rituals, he is committed to his post.
Do I love him more for it?
Yes.
Do I sometimes question my life choices while holding a tissue to his nose?
Also yes.
