Every so often, Upwork presents us with a job listing so absurd and audacious that it leaves us in disbelief. Today’s gem?
“Human Blog Articles for Fence Website – No AI-generated content allowed.”
Fixed price: $25. Expert level. Contract-to-hire.
Excuse me while I metaphorically climb this fence to scream into the void.
Let’s unpack this, shall we?
They want:
Original, human-written content
Deep research
SEO-friendly polish
Clear, engaging tone
An “expert-level” writer
All for twenty-five whole dollars.
To recap: they want actual humans—likely those with rent, bills, and maybe even professional experience—to generate top-tier content… for less than the cost of a decent fence post.
This job listing is the equivalent of asking a Michelin chef to whip up a five-course meal and tipping them with expired coupons. But hey, it’s contract-to-hire, so there’s the vague promise of more underpaid work if you survive the first task without hurling yourself into a pile of discarded pickets.
It’s not the anti-AI clause that’s the issue. It’s the audacity of assuming that a writer’s time, skill, and lived experiences are valued so little.
If you want content written by humans, pay fairly for it. Otherwise, you are just creating a barrier of disrespect between you and any skilled writer.
