Hola, Dreamspace friends! It’s Felipe, your rainbow armadillo, back with another jargon-busting, gate-breaking lesson to help you run your blog (and your creative projects) with confidence.
Today’s Topic: KPI (Key Performance Indicator)
You’ll see this term everywhere in the blogosphere, SEO world, and freelance writing circles. “Track your KPIs!” “Optimize for your KPIs!” But what does it actually mean?
Plain English Version:
Don’t let the fancy term intimidate you. A KPI is simply a way of asking, “What am I measuring to know if this is working?”
- If you want more people to read your blog, your KPI might be “number of visitors per week.”
- If you want more folks to subscribe, your KPI could be “new email signups.”
- If you’re selling something, your KPI might be “sales per month.”
Why does it matter?
Because it keeps you focused, you don’t have to measure everything—just the things that matter to you.
How do I find my KPIs?
- Decide what you care about most. (Readers? Comments? Shares? Sales?)
- Pick one or two simple numbers to watch.
- Use free tools like Google Analytics, Jetpack Stats, or even just your blog dashboard.
Felipe’s Free Tools for Tracking KPIs:
- Google Analytics (for big-picture stats)
- Jetpack (if you’re on WordPress)
- Plausible Analytics (privacy-focused, simple dashboards)
- Spreadsheet (literally just type your numbers in once a week)
What KPIs are right for you?
- Just starting out? Try “visitors per week” and “comments per post.”
- Selling something? Track “clicks” or “sales.”
- Growing a newsletter? Watch “email signups.”
Remember:
KPIs are your tool—not your boss. Pick what matters, and ignore the rest.
