When people ask why I’ve built the Dreamspace the way I have, the answer always starts with one word: necessity.
I have autism. I have ADHD. I get overwhelmed easily by noise, by crowds, by demands, by the endless hustle culture that nearly broke me, body and mind. For years, I tried to fit into jobs and schedules that weren’t made for people like me. I tried to white-knuckle my way through survival mode, and it nearly destroyed me. But that’s not my story anymore.
My first act of rebellion was learning to be gentle with myself.
I crafted rituals around rest and genuine care because no “productivity hack” or “get-rich-quick” scheme could give me what I needed: a life where my body and mind could exist and succeed just as they are.
Why Take Care of Myself?
Because the world isn’t set up for disabled and neurodivergent people to thrive. Most jobs require documentation just to consider a reasonable accommodation, and even then, you’re forced to beg and prove yourself. My disabilities, autism, ADHD, dyslexia (especially with numbers), and chronic pain mean I can’t stand or sit at a register, carry heavy things, or stay on my feet or in a chair for hours at a stretch.
Nowhere hires you to do a great job while lying down. No traditional job lets you nap when your body says “enough.”
Even “remote work” isn’t always a solution: mouse trackers, webcam check-ins, endless monitoring. You can’t prop yourself up with pillows and work from bed if the company doesn’t trust that you’re working.
So I built something better.
I built the Dreamspace, a business, a creative workflow, and a life that honors what I need, showing you that your needs can shape your own space too.
I can work in sprints, rest as needed, and choose when and where to work, demonstrating how flexible solutions support my well-being and productivity.
This Is Survival, But Also Joy
It’s not just about getting by. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had stories in my head. The Dreamspace is where I finally have the room to write them all down, to build worlds, to create and share and connect with other lantern-holders who light the way for each other.
Dreamspace isn’t just a concept; it’s my safe place and my liberation, inspiring you to create a space that offers you safety and freedom, too.
It lets me keep working, keep creating, and keep my body from collapsing under someone else’s rules. I work around my energy, my limits, and my brilliance.
And it’s working. Dreamspace runs itself much of the week; I can focus on the writing and rest on weekends. I don’t have to carve myself up for the marketplace. I built a home for my stories, my voice, and my community.
Make Your Own Dreamspace
Everyone has a Dreamspace. Yes, even you. A dreamspace is a workflow, a flow-state. It may take root in your mind like a little imaginary world that shifts, changes, and grows as needed, like a TARDIS. Maybe it has some little friends like a raccoon who’s obsessed with raspberries. Maybe that friend has befriended a Mexican long-nosed armadillo with a glittery rainbow shell that makes AMAZING tacos.
You Can Build Your Dreamspace, Too by personalizing your workspace to fit your needs, showing you that creating your own space is possible and empowering.
This is why I share my rituals, workflow, chaos, and comfort to inspire you to build a supportive environment that truly works for you and your Unique needs.
I’ve shared what my Dreamspace looks like in all sorts of ways and will continue to do so. I’m curious, what does YOUR Dreamspace look like? Tell me all about it in the comments or over in our Discord!
