Dreamspace After Dark Presents: The Great Green Bean Caper

Sometimes the most epic adventures are found in the hum of ordinary magic—especially when green beans and Tajín are involved.

Sometimes, after the sun slips away and the lanterns glow just right, the Dreamspace comes alive in stranger, cozier ways. Tonight’s “After dark” episode? A tale of flying green beans, a raccoon with dubious kitchen etiquette, an armadillo obsessed with Tajín, and one very unimpressed dog. Not everything is epic magic or grand destiny — sometimes, it’s just about finding joy in the small, crunchy moments. Settle in for this latest caper from the Dreamspace.

Picture it, Dreamspace, In a giant tree trunk, 2025: a rainy evening in the Dreamspace. Thimble the raccoon sprawls across the comfiest bean bag in the nook, a basket of garden-fresh green beans perched precariously in her lap. She’s supposed to be prepping dinner. Instead, she’s watching old cartoons, feet in the air, tail swishing with each laugh.

The gigantic treehouse glows from within — lanterns flicker, rain taps on the canopy above.

A woven basket, overflowing with fresh green beans, sits between Thimble and Felipe the armadillo. Felipe, for reasons known only to Felipe, is double-fisting popcorn and green beans, the popcorn sprinkled with enough Tajín to make your nose itch.

Thimble, rolling her eyes but also snacking, gives half the basket to Felipe. “If you’re going to sit here and snack, at least help me prep these,” she says, flicking a green bean at his snout.

Felipe, always up for a challenge, pinches off an end and — without warning — flicks it. The end sails through the air in a slow, majestic arc, glints in the lantern light, pings off the TV screen, and ricochets with comic precision all the way to the far wall.

Thimble’s head snaps over to Felipe after following the green bean end. Felipe the rainbow armadillo looks back at her bashfully but also with an air of pride. He’s already covered in stray bean ends and an alarming dusting of Tajin powder. He is, as usual, snacking on popcorn (with extra edible glitter), and offering frequent, unhelpful advice:

“If you snap the beans really fast, it turns into a game of ‘Find the Flying Bean’!”

There’s a half-second of stunned silence. Soon, the quiet evening transforms into an all-out bean-flinging contest, punctuated by giggles, mock-scoldings, and Thimble’s very serious reminders that “somebody’s got to actually cook these, or dinner’s going to be popcorn again.”

Thimble, deadpan: “Congratulations. That’s the longest hang-time in Dreamspace history. The Green Bean Grand Prix.”

Felipe bows (popcorn crumbs everywhere), Thimble raises her paw in mock salute, and Monet the dog — dozing on a patchwork quilt — cracks one eye open, already plotting a late-night scavenger hunt for the rogue bean bits.

For the rest of the evening, every snapped bean becomes a game of “where will it land?” Points are awarded for creativity, distance, and near-misses with unsuspecting magical artifacts. Somewhere in the rafters, a lone bean end teeters precariously, destined to fall at the most dramatic moment possible.

By the end of the night, there are more beans on the floor than in the bowl, Felipe has constructed a tiny green bean fort, and Thimble, sighing dramatically, declares:

“Next time, you get the carrots. They don’t fly as far.”

Somewhere in the Dreamspace, Sol logs this entire episode for future podcast blackmail. (She’ll title it “The Great Green Bean Hang Time Tournament.”)

The Dreamspace never sleeps, and neither do its stories. Wherever you are tonight, may you find a little comfort, a little chaos, and someone to help you fling green beans across the room.
