How to Build a Low-Cost SEO Workflow That Actually Works.

You don’t need a $99/month plugin to write a blog post that gets seen. You need a strategy. A system. A little bit of know-how, and the willingness to write with both heart and intention.

SEO shouldn’t be gatekept behind premium paywalls. If you’re a writer, blogger, or small creative trying to make your voice heard on a shoestring budget—this is for you. Here’s a free, repeatable SEO workflow that actually works, based on trial, error, and real-world hustle.

Let’s Be Clear: This Is the Workflow I Actually Use

There are a million SEO tutorials out there, and most of them are built to sell you something. This one isn’t. This workflow is not hypothetical. It’s not theory. It’s not regurgitated fluff from content farms.

This is the exact process I use every single time I write. Whether it’s a blog post for my own platform, an article for a client, or even SEO-infused creative work, this is the system that carries the weight. It’s been tested, refined, and proven over and over again.

Yes, I work with an AI assistant (Her name is Sol, by the way). But I am the human in our co-writing equation.

That means:

  • I read everything aloud to ensure the voice sounds natural and true to me.
  • I hand-check every link to confirm it’s live, relevant, and trustworthy.
  • I pull up sources and read them myself—then bring them into the writing with intention.
  • I edit by hand. I don’t use a humanizer tool. I am the human. That’s my job.

Together, we collaborate ethically. We research thoroughly. We tell the truth clearly. And we’re sharing every single step of this process with you—no gatekeeping, no fluff, no premium plugin required.

Step 1: Start With a Content Goal Before you hit the keyboard, ask yourself:

  • What’s the purpose of this post? (To inform, entertain, sell, explain?)
  • Who is this post for? (Beginners, advanced readers, niche communities?)
  • What is your reader going to walk away with?

If your post has a heartbeat, it’ll rank better. Search engines want to see structure, but people want to feel something. Start there.

Step 2: Find Keywords the Smart (Free) Way. You don’t need to pay for keyword research. You just need to be intentional.

Here are free tools that’ll get the job done:

  • Ubersuggest: Limited free lookups per day. Great for basic keyword stats and ideas.
  • AlsoAsked.com: Visualizes related questions people are searching—perfect for structuring H2s.
  • Keyword Sheeter: Pulls long-tail keywords from Google autocomplete.
  • SEO Minion (Chrome/Firefox extension): Analyzes SERPs, headings, and link health.
  • Google Search itself: Type your phrase and check “People also ask” and “Related searches.”

Step 3: Build Your SEO Skeleton Don’t wing it. Map it.

Use this basic content structure:

  • H1: Your blog title (include your main keyword)
  • Intro paragraph: Set the hook, use the keyword naturally
  • H2s: Subheadings that outline your points (try including questions people search)
  • H3s: Optional, for breaking down lists or definitions
  • Conclusion: Wrap it up with value, restate the key idea, and suggest next steps

This makes your content easy to scan for readers and search engines.

Step 4: Write Like a Human, Optimize Like a Pro This is the fun part.

Get the words out. Say what you mean. Don’t worry about perfection yet—just write the post with clarity, connection, and voice.

Then go back and improve:

  • Sprinkle in related keywords where they fit naturally.
  • Keep paragraphs short and readable.
  • Use bulleted lists for takeaways.
  • Link to 2–3 external sources and 1–2 internal posts (if available).
  • Add at least one image with a keyword in the file name and alt text.

Step 5: Polish It With Free Tools Even without premium plugins, you can make your post sharp and SEO-ready.

Use:

  • Grammarly or Hemingway App to clean up grammar and tone.
  • SEO Minion to check links, structure, and headings.
  • Jetpack (WordPress) for basic SEO and readability tips.
  • Open Graph/Twitter Card testers to preview how your post appears when shared.

Every little detail improves your polish—and your ranking.

Step 6: Track What Works After publishing:

  • Watch your Jetpack stats or other site analytics.
  • Track popular posts and study their format.
  • Use Ubersuggest’s rank tracker (free with account) for basic performance monitoring.

Final Thoughts: You Don’t Need Fancy Tools—You Need a Workflow

SEO doesn’t have to be mystical or expensive. You don’t need to spend money to make your blog readable, rankable, and powerful.

All you need is a little guidance, a repeatable flow, and the decision to show up.

And we’ll be right here, showing up with you.
